Children in the women's shelter

The children who come to the women's shelter are also always victims of domestic violence. Either the children are directly affected by violence or have often witnessed the violence against their mothers over long periods of time: sometimes they have seen bad things, they have heard scary things and they have always felt a tense and threatening atmosphere of violence and humiliation.
Moving to the women's shelter on the one hand means a considerable relief for the children because the immediate threat posed by the mother's father or partner is eliminated. On the other hand, it also puts a great strain on them, as they are undergoing fundamental changes in their life situation.
This situation is taken into account in the work with the girls and boys in the shelter. In group and individual offers they are given the opportunity to distance themselves from the violent family situation and to develop new joie de vivre and self-confidence. Here you have the opportunity to name the experiences of violence and to learn that you are not the only ones who had to experience something like this. In the Frauenhaus children's group, they can get to know non-violent conflict resolution strategies and alternatives to previously learned role models.
